The Gems Spill The Beans!!!

It looks like Nanny Rhonah and Collins have a secret!!!

In fact it looks like Opio and Nanny Susan are in on it too!

Come on Nanny Eva and Josiah - Tell us!  What's going on?

All this excitement could only mean one thing!

The Gems have been hard at work in helping to officially launch

"Will You Be My Gem-Friend?"

I mean, who can resist their sweet faces?
#CutestGemsEver

And they're not kidding, they're excited too, because the Gems have been really busy working
on thank you gifts (more on that later) for all their Gem-Friends!

Let's be honest, the Gem's needs are huge with round-the-clock nursing care, nannies,
therapists, doctors, medicines, etc.

Yet we know that God moves huge on people's hearts
when we pray.  We've been praying so it's time to share the need!!

Our goal is to have all of our Gems have enough Gem-Friends by the New Year!

One thing is for sure, The Gem Foundation loves to celebrate, and we can't think of a better way to
celebrate the New Year than knowing all the Gems are fully sponsored!

How can you help?

1.  Become a Gem-Friend by sponsoring one (or more) of the Gems!
Each Gem-Friend will receive a gift from their Gem along with quarterly updates.

2.  Pray with us that God will raise a whole host of Gem-Friends who love our Gems and want to help!

3.  Share the need with your friends! Social media, small groups, family gatherings, any way you can think of!

4.  We're even going to be opening the Gem for a "tour" in the days ahead...

Celebrating TWO Years of Gems

On July 10th we gathered together to Celebrate all that God has done here at The Gem Foundation.

Celebrating TWO years of Gems!

Two years ago we opened our doors and our hearts as we welcomed home 12 precious Gems through our partner organization Watoto Childcare Ministries.

In just a matter of 24 hours we went from being an empty building to being a fully running 24 hour care home for 12 special needs kiddos. Watoto was gracious and spent many days and nights training us on night feedings and schedules. We laughed as Caleb and Collin would have crawling races on the mats in the living room.

{Hamza one of our newest gems and his nanny Carol}

Our Staff family began to grow as well through the months and many more staff would join the team.

{We had delicious local food buffet! What's a party without some delicious Matooke?}

Wheelchair rides and races would fill the sunny, summer days as we laughed and rejoiced in all that God has been doing.

{Josh pushed Johnie and Justin in their awesome wheelchair swing that Josh helped design!}

Over the coming two years we would have the incredible joy of loving and caring for a total of 34 children! Five now live in Heaven: Arthur, Jason, Elisha, John Moe, Samuel - safe in the arms of Jesus.  And our sweet Claire whom we had the joy of reuniting with her family.

We jumped and jumped! I mean a party wouldn't be a party without a jumping castle right?!

Over the two years God has been so faithful to us. He has given us favor every where we go. With the Ugandan government, officials, and this year He has even given us favor with the diplomats!

We have had the joy of having the Ambassador of Egypt as well as his wife, his family and his officials visit.  We have also had the Ambassador's wives from Cameroon, Ethiopia, and even Germany come to meet The Gems!!

{Joan our social worker sang a song dedicated to all the Gems and special needs children in Uganda! She is amazing and we are so thankful to have her as part of our team!}

I would like to take today to proclaim God's faithfulness and His deep love for the special needs children of Uganda. All glory to God!

{Nanny Paul and Joey!}

{Our nanny Liz wrote a song about The Gem Foundation and sang it with her friends for us!
So proud of you Liz and so thankful to have you as part of our team!}

We rejoice and celebrate in all that God has done here in The Gem Foundation and all that He is going to do in the coming years! All glory to God!

We danced and danced celebrating all that God had done! Such a joyful celebration it was!

Isaiah 61: 1 - 11

“All who see the Gem Foundation,
will acknowledge that they are a people that the Lord has blessed!”
Look at the joy Opio has!! He is thriving - thanks to many donors!!

Psalm 33:1 - 22

says “Sing Joyfully to the Lord”

All glory to God and all the great things He has done!!

We can't wait to see all that God will do in the coming years!

Opio's Urgent Surgery

Recently our precious Opio began to be very sick and weak.

His body had gotten weak and so we met and saw many doctors and specialists over the last few months.

He has had tests upon tests and many emergency appointments.

Just last week we finally met with a doctor who shared with us the urgent need to have three operations one to put in a gastronomy tube called a "Peg" where the food will be able to go directly to his stomach.

This will Lord willing help his body begin to heal and put on weight.

He also needs to have a throat surgery to remove a hernia and reconstruction of his throat that causes his frequent vomiting and congestion.

He's a fighter our little brave 5 year old Opio.

He is such a tenderhearted little guy and loves to be carried in my sling.

It doesn't matter if he is sick in bed he never fails to give us the most charming smile!

We have begun meeting with specialists to see how to best move forward for our Opio.

The cost for these operations are overwhelming..But we know that God is faithful and He will provide every need that our Opio has because He loves him.

Due to Uganda not having the specialists here in Kampala - he will need to travel to Nairobi  Kenya where the specialist is in order to have these operations.

We currently need to raise $5,000 USD for the above surgeries.

Would you please pray and considering donating?

The doctors have told us that if he doesn't have these three surgeries his life will be short..
The reality of this is not easy.

But I know that God has good plans for my Opio!

" For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11

Our precious Opio needs these surgeries and he needs them urgently.

Would you please pray about being apart of helping Opio have a hope
and a beautiful future?

On behalf of our Opio thank you, thank you, thank you.

Please be praying for our Opio in the days ahead and for wisdom for the doctors and healing and protection over him.Pray for provision and that God will direct our steps. Pray that we will have favour traveling since in the past they have given us trouble at the border.

Thank you sweet friends.

The Ambassador of Egypt comes for a visit!

{We even made the newspaper!}

I am so excited to be sharing with you part 2!

Following the meeting we received a formal invitation to a bazaar to be hosted at the Ambassadors home to raise awareness for orphans!

We were so honored to be able to attend.

We arrived at the event greeted by the Ambassador and he introduced to many other dignitaries from other countries!

We later found out that the money raised from the bazaar was going to be used to benefit,

How amazing is that? So in awe of how God works!

I can just imagine God smiling saying " Do you know how much I love the gems?! This is just a small glimpse of my love for them!!"

To think that even the Eygptian Ambassador's heart would be stirred for the special needs Orphans of Uganda

We were speechless and so very honored!

Only God!

~

A week later we received yet again another phone call from the Egyptian Embassy.

Asking if they could come for a visit and meet our precious Gems!

Of course we agreed!

Excitement filled the air as we welcomed the Ambassador and his wife

and many other offcials from the Embassy.

They came bearing generous donations and gifts for our Gems!

There were diapers and formula and coloring books galore!

Such a blessing to our home and children!

We love watching how generously God provides every month for our Gems!

This was truly only something God could do!

The Egyptian people are so generous and truly have a deep love for the Orphan!

The Ambassador of Egypt meeting some of our Gems!

Hudson was all smiles when he met the Ambassador and received a gift!

                                      Baby Joshua was a big hit with his "BONGA!" {knuckles!}

The Ambassador of Egypt was so open-hearted and kind!

He enjoyed meeting each and everyone of our Gems!

Meeting Collins and Caleb -

They were so excited with their gifts!

We stand amazed at just how much God loves our precious Gems and how much He loves to surprise us with little gifts from Him!

We were so humbled and honored to have the Ambassador visit and meet our precious Gems!

Thank you, Thank you, thank you for caring for the Orphan!

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress!" - James 1:27a

Still smiling of the sweet surprise and blessing God gave us having the Ambassador visit and love on our precious Gems!

Embassy of Egypt Calling....

I'm so excited to share with you all an amazing story of how God works!

Recently I was outside in the front yard playing with the kids
when I realized I'd left my phone inside.

I came inside to check my phone only to find a ton of missed phone calls from a number I didn't recognize.

I quickly dialed the number back thinking that someone must really need me to have dialed so many times.

The phone rang and then on the other line I heard someone answer,

"Hello This is the Egyptian Embassy,
how can I help you?"

I was completely shocked.

Did she just say what I thought she said?

"Um did you just say the Egyptian Embassy? I received a missed call from this number."

I waited as she responded on the other end,

"Oh is this Emmalee Director of The Gem Foundation?"

"YES!"  I responded.

She then proceeded to share with me that
we had been nominated by another home and that
the Ambassador wanted to meet with me!

I was speechless. And said,

"WOW! I'M SHOCKED!"

She sounded joyful as she asked me why I was shocked.

I said "Well it's not everyday an Embassy calls and an Ambassador wants to meet with me!"

We arranged an appointment for the following day and hung up the phone.

I was still shocked and overjoyed.

Could it really be? The country I love where my favorite missionary and hero served?

~

Several years ago I had read a missionary biography,
 that had grabbed my heart.

Lillian Thrasher
was a brave single woman began the journey to Egypt
to serve as a missionary.

Later on she would find that God would call her to start the very first orphanage in Egypt.

And it still runs today.

It has cared for more then 20,000 orphans and widows.

To Read Lillian Thrasher's Book Click Here

Reading her story had inspired me and I longed to someday visit Egypt and see her orphanage and love on the precious Egyptian people.

For years since I had read and reread her biography as God has done things in my life that sometimes mirror the events and struggles of Lillian.

She was a woman of great faith as she trusted Him and
He always met and provided every need she had.

I longed to visit Egypt and for this very reason it has held a special place in my heart.

~

When the Embassy of Egypt called I felt God in some small way was using my love for Egypt and the Egyptian people - I can just imagine God smiling saying
"Wait until you see what I am going to do!"

I arrived at the Embassy and was ushered into a waiting room,
where I waited to meet with the Ambassador.

So excited to see what God was going to do.

I was called in to meet with the Ambassador and ushered to another seat in front of his desk.

I introduced myself.

I found that the Ambassador,

to be a kind man with so much compassion and grace.

He is passionate about Orphans and wants to make a difference.

He has a heart for people and the Orphan.

I shared with him all about The Gem Foundation and what we do.

I showed him pictures on my phone of some of my precious Gems.

He shared with me that in Egypt every first of April they host an Orphans Day -
An event to raise money and awareness for the Orphan.

He then proceeded to share that he would like The Gem Foundation to be one of the homes they support through this event.

We were so humbled and honored.

Before leaving of course I had to snap a picture with the Ambassador of Egypt!

Stay tuned for part 2!

To see all that God did!

Just Like You...

Recently I was told by someone,

“Wow!  I’m so glad God gave you the heart to do what you do, because me - I just don’t have it.”.

The sentence continued to play throughout my mind for days, weeks and here we are today.

Over and over again it rolls through my memory and I think to myself,

"Oh sweet friend how I desperately long for you to see what I see every day!"

You see my friend,

caring for a special needs children is a Joy!

It doesn’t take some super power, life changing experience, or education.

 The bible clearly states,

“We love, because He first loved us.” - 1 John 4:19

You see - it's really that simple.

We love as Christ has called us to love.

Special needs children and adults are just like you and me!!

They have likes and dislikes,

Feelings and thoughts.

They enjoy being hugged and cuddled.

They love holidays and can't wait for Christmas.

They have the best smiles,

They too, have powerful emotions,

They feel joyful and some days they feel really sad.

They feel grief and pain.

And oh my friends how

they

 radiate Joy!

They love with every fibre in their being.

And with one single smile they can steal your heart.

Oh friend!!

How I long for you to see what I see.

To see what God sees.

The only truly special need we see,

is that they long to be loved.

Just like you and me.

This blog post wasn't to be a rant or a calling out.

But I pray my friend,

                     that wherever you are today

that you will see the beauty of my precious gems.

Created in HIS image.

Made perfectly unique.

And oh so very valuable!

You my sweet gems are more precious then rubies.

More valuable then diamonds.

So humbled am I that I get the joy of loving you and calling you my  precious gems!

I love you always and forever.

xoxo
